Knowledge sharing and promotion of young talents on the use of lidar data to predict landslides

As part of the current project in Nepal, the G.E.O.S. team has reached another milestone. The project, which aims to develop a landslide warning system using artificial intelligence and know-how transfer, was made possible thanks to co-financing from DEG Impulse gGmbH with funds from the develoPPP programme (German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development).

In early April 2024, a team from G.E.O.S. had the opportunity to hold a series of lectures at the renowned Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu. The team, which specialises in artificial intelligence, spoke about the role of LiDAR data in landslide prediction as part of the GeoSmart system.

‘Knowledge that is shared will multiply,’ emphasises team leader Dr René Kahnt. ‘By passing on our project results to university students, we not only want to disseminate valuable knowledge, but also inspire the next generation of innovators and problem solvers. After the lecture, several students contacted G.E.O.S. to collaborate more intensively as part of postgraduate works.

The initiative emphasises G.E.O.S.'s commitment to the further development of technologies for AI-based landslide prediction and the exchange of knowledge with the academic community. In this way, G.E.O.S. specialists continue to make a significant contribution to the safety and development of Nepal.
