Within the EU research project FAME, G.E.O.S., together with project partners, developed new processing methods for the extraction of economically significant metals such as tungsten, indium, lithium or tin from skarn, greisen and pegmatite ores. For ores that could not be processed economically until now due to their complex structure, this resulted in new processing options that were successfully tested on pilot scale by German and European mining companies within the project.

  • Selective crushing, pre-sorting for production of pre-concentrates and separation of waste rock
  • Geochemical and mineralogical analyses of the pre-concentrates/concentrates
  • Magnetic separation, density separation and flotation for concentrate production (tungsten, tin, zinc, lithium)
  • Hydrometallurgy - solution processing by liquid extraction, precipitation, ion exchange, sorption) for the recovery of valuable metals (indium, gallium) and by-products (silicates)
  • Biohydrometallurgy for leaching of sulphides
  • Testing of the processes in laboratory and pilot plant
  • Process flow diagrams
