Planning and construction supervision of safeguarding works in old mines

At the latest after the heavy precipitation events in 2002 and 2013, the importance of the numerous dewatering adits in the old mining areas in the Free State of Saxony was clearly demonstrated. Through the provision of EU funding and funding from the Free State of Saxony, numerous projects to secure various dewatering adits have been completed in recent years.

Within the framework of the European Regional Development Fund the "Prevention of Risks of Disused Mines", the necessary technical custody work for mining safety an was planned by G.E.O.S. and the construction was supervised by their experts. The project consisted of restoring and permanently guaranteeing the dewatering from the Seiffen surface breaks by rehabilitating two drainage adits and was carried out on behalf of the Saxon State Mining Authority."

The waterways of the "Johannes Stolln" and the "Heilige Dreifaltigkeit Stolln" were only partially clear due to several collapses. Therefore, there was a danger of uncontrolled water rises and water leaks in the immediate vicinity of the tourist village of Seiffen. For the remediation of the two dewatering adits, three shaft sinks were sunk and these were then used as inspection shafts. In the course of the underground works, the "Johannes Stolln" was excavated to a depth of approx. 370 metres and the "Heilige Dreifaltigkeit Stolln" to a depth of approx. 1,150 metres and made secure. With its experience and expertise in abandoned mines, G.E.O.S. was able to contribute to the realisation of the project goals and the successful completion of the project.
