Planning and supervisory services for the NordLink overland cable route

The NordLink project is the first transnational 1,400 MW high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission link from southern Norway to Germany (Schleswig-Holstein) with a route length of approx. 623 kilometres. NordLink was scheduled to go into operation in autumn 2020 and is one of the most significant projects in the European energy sector. NordLink will enable the transmission of renewable energies such as hydropower from Norway and wind power from Germany. For this purpose, 516 kilometres of submarine cable will be laid offshore and 53 kilometres of overhead line onshore in Norway and 54 kilometres of underground cable in Germany (Büsum to Wilster).

As a reliable partner, G.E.O.S. provided individual planning, implementation, safety and monitoring services for the NordLink project in the onshore cable route section with around 30 engineers at peak times.

Services

  • Planning approval paperwork and plan amendment procedures including procedural support
  • Pre-construction work on explosive ordnance, monitoring of archaeological surveys, soil mapping, land surveying work
  • Construction supervision (construction according to approval, coordination with authorities, drainage, land damage, documentation of construction completion)
  • Ecological construction supervision (nature conservation and soil science)
  • Health and Safety protection - coordination and safety supervision
  • Supporting contract management (regarding permission, use, crossing, special use)
